MEATLOAF

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 lbs ground beef or turkey

  • 3/4 cup raw oats

  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Add all of the ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Mix until evenly combined, but avoid overworking the meat or the finished meatloaf can become dense.

Shape the mixture into a loaf about 10 inches long and 6 inches wide. Place it on the rack of a broiler pan so the excess grease can drain as it cooks.

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the center reaches 160°F for ground beef or 165°F for ground turkey.

Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. This gives the juices time to settle and helps the loaf hold together.
