BAR STYLE PIZZA
Ingredients
To create the perfect bar style pizza, you’ll need a few key ingredients. For the dough, you will require:
1/2 cup warm water
0.25 tbsp sugar
0.25 tbsp dry yeast
0.5 tbsp olive oil
0.25 tbsp salt
1.5 cups bread flour
0.5 tsp garlic powder
For the baking process, grab a cookie sheet and coat it with 1 tbsp olive oil, along with a pinch each of oregano, salt, and chili flakes. The sauce will consist of:
7 oz tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp olive oil
0.25 tbsp sugar
0.5 tsp oregano
Finally, don’t forget your toppings! For a classic bar pizza, you’ll want:
8 oz low-moisture mozzarella cheese
2 oz parmesan cheese
Method
Add the warm water, sugar, and yeast to a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes, until the yeast becomes foamy on top.
Pour in the olive oil, then add the salt and bread flour. Mix until everything comes together into a sticky dough.
Cover the bowl with a clean towel or lid and let the dough rise at room temperature for about one hour, or until it has noticeably increased in size.
Spread 1 tablespoon of olive oil across a rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle the oregano, salt, and red pepper flakes over the oil, then press or roll the dough evenly across the pan. Finish the crust with a light sprinkle of garlic powder.
For a crispier bottom, place the baking sheet over two burners set to medium heat for about 5 minutes. Only do this with a heavy-duty metal pan that is safe for direct stovetop heat. Otherwise, skip this step and preheat the pan in the oven instead.
Mix the tomato sauce, olive oil, sugar, and oregano in a small bowl. Spread the sauce evenly over the crust, then top it with the Parmesan and mozzarella.
Bake at 475°F for about 7 minutes, or until the crust is browned and the cheese is melted, bubbling, and starting to brown in spots. Let the pizza rest for a few minutes before slicing.
