Review of Tamale House East in Austin, Texas
About Tamale House
Tamale House is a legendary Austin eatery that’s been around since 1958. It all started with Grandma Carmen and Grandpa Moses who made it their goal to serve authentic Mexican food to a diverse community. Their small kitchen brought together senators, artists, and locals alike. The tradition continued through different spots, including the famous Drag, Airport, and Mexico Tipico. In 2012, Tamale House East was born, combining classic Congress items, Mexico Tipico favorites, and new creations. It’s not just a restaurant. It’s a neighborhood hub with a rich history, real flavors, and a vibe that’s pure Austin.
Our Take:
The queso and margaritas hit the table in record time and packed an absolute flavor punch! Our choice of crispy fish tacos was on point and offered a satisfying crunch. We also had the chicken enchilada which caught us off guard with its massive size. It was definitely more than we bargained for. A refreshing twist, the salsa verde had a genuine kick, delivering a spicy surprise.
Navigating the menu was a breeze, thanks to the QR code system at Tamale House. The waitstaff was a cut above, blending speed and friendliness seamlessly. From our phones to our table, the entire process flowed effortlessly. These waiters are like culinary ninjas, anticipating our every craving without skipping a beat. Their exceptional service and accommodating demeanor elevate the dining experience to a new level of satisfaction.
On the flip side, the restaurant’s seating and layout can feel a bit disjointed, with various seating arrangements scattered throughout the space. While the parking situation offers ample space, it’s worth noting that it’s a paid option, an interesting choice for a place with its own lot. Presumably, it’s a move to prevent casual parkers from crowding the lot, but perhaps there’s a more seamless way to strike that balance.
